Do Supplements Help on the Road to Good Nutrition?
Just turn on the TV and you’ll see that fitness and health are important topics with just about everyone these days. You can tell by all the health-related magazines, TV and radio programs and Web sites you see everywhere. Health information has become more common because it’s hard to stay healthy in our modern world and people are asking for all the help they can get. I believe they’re confused because of the lack of emphasis on health now that fast food has entered the picture. Eating junk foods that deliver flavor but no nutrition has resulted in a generally lower standard of health. That move away from what’s natural for us also means we don’t have the same intuitive understanding of what’s healthy for our bodies that our ancestors might have had, because along with eating junk food, the trend in recent years has been to move away from physical activity in our jobs. That combination has caused people to look for other methods to stay healthy.
On the surface, people look and feel more attractive if they’re fit. But when you look deeper, you’ll find there are plenty of other reasons to stay in top condition. To begin with, people who are healthy enjoy their lives much more and stay vibrant and illness-free so much longer. Being healthy simply gives them more quality time in their lives. Those are some pretty good reasons to work on your health. If you need even more incentive, though, consider your friends and family. I’m sure they’d like you to stay healthy so they can have you around for as long as possible!
One of the ways that people count on to stay healthy is the consumption of supplements and vitamins. But do they really work? I think you have to answer that based on your own experience but there are many studies that say that supplements are worth the money. One good example of this are the studies inspired by World War II RAF pilots whose night vision improved when they ingested the herb bilberry. Researchers reviewed the impact of bilberries on eye health and established a reliable connection. In point of fact, some recent studies have indicated that bilberries or bilberry supplements can increase visual acuity in people who are healthy, and can also aid those who have eye diseases like age-related macular degeneration (AMD), glaucoma and cataracts. Other supplements also have been proved to have a positive impact on eye health care, like vitamin A and lutein. And these are only a few eye-related examples. Textbooks are full of documentation that details research studies on every possible substance. Naturally, I can’t say whether all of them have received as positive research findings as bilberry. It’s important to check for yourself, and make sure you get the latest research. Remember, supplements carry risks just like pharmaceutical medicine, so don’t take them lightly. But don’t let that stop you either. Just be thorough with your research and then follow your instincts.

Many weight loss professionals advice eating five to six smaller meals every day. Even if these meals are much smaller than what you normally eat, it accounts for a lot of food. Including nutrition supplements along with your meals can ensure you get all of the nutrients your body needs. Vitamin and nutrition supplements are essential if you are trying to lose weight, and even if you are trying to maintain a recent weight loss or just want to be healthier. The resulting number is how many calories you need to maintain your current weight. If you want to lose weight, subtract five hundred from that number and try to stick to that number of calories each day. If your goal is to gain weight, such as would be the case of weight lifters, you should add five hundred calories, and so on. But remember, not all calories are equal.
Cut out Junk Food
It would do no good to include nutrition supplements in your diet only to stuff your face with chocolate cake, cookies and pop all day. You need to include plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean meats and more natural foods in your diet. These fresh foods should make up about ninety percent of your daily meals. However, you can substitute some of your meals with nutrition supplements, such as vitamins, protein shakes, protein bars, and other nutrition supplements that can give you the nutrients you need.
A Good Plan
Healthy cereal in skim milk is part of the best plan because a breakfast rich in carbs and protein will give you the energy to make it through your day. Fresh fruit combined with a nutrition supplement such as a protein shake is an example of a healthy snack. Lean meat such as chicken combined with vegetables and brown rice make a great lunch. To finish off your day, have a nutrition supplement for one last snack and then more lean meat and vegetables for dinner. You can have another supplement before you go to bed but make sure you tailor back your calorie intake before you go to sleep because you risk those excess calories being turned into fat while you sleep.

All around the world, people are getting fatter and fatter. Even the nations that never before had to worry about obesity, such as China, Japan and even Korea, are now seeing an epidemic. It’s like no one is exempt from love handles and belly fat. So why is the human population exploding with fat? The answer lies in two words: poor nutrition. We are not just eating inadequate nutrition, but are also eating too much at the wrong times. Food Is Fuel
Food is no longer used as fuel for our bodies, but has become a means to please our taste buds and overfill our stomachs. We should eat only to fuel our bodies for daily activities. When we eat more food than we can burn for energy, it is stored in our fat cells. Fat isn’t our body’s way of getting back at us or its way of being spiteful. Storing fat is simply a natural function of the human body.Fat provides heat when we’re cold, and it provides insulation to our bones and internal organs and even our muscles. It is also a way of preventing starvation. When we eat too much, and we don’t burn off those calories with exercise or everyday activities, the excess gets turned into fat. Since we are eating more and more in our current culture, the fat cells have no choice but to grow larger and larger.
Balanced Nutrition is the Answer
Good nutrition is all about balance. You don’t have to give up your favorite foods, treats and desserts. The trick is to work them into a healthy diet so your weight stays in control. You should eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, lean meats and you should even take some nutrition supplements such as vitamins. Use your treats and desserts as rewards for yourself for doing so well on your nutrition throughout the week. You can maintain a healthy weight by eating well for an entire week and then splurging one or even two days during that week; provided that you burn off the excess calories with exercise.
If You’re Overweight
If you’re already overweight and you want to lose that weight, proper nutrition along with exercise is the only way to do it. If you can commit to taking in the nutrition your body needs, splitting your calories up into five or six smaller meals a day, and getting around thirty minutes of exercise 3-5 days each week, you will notice your fat cells shrinking faster than expected. There is no easy fix for weight loss.It isn’t possible without some work on your part. However, you don’t have to do like the commercials and infomercials show, where everyone’s sweating and panting until they die. If you are sticking to a diet with balanced nutrition, simply walking around the neighborhood after dinner each night will burn off enough calories to produce weight loss.
